Buon giorno, RISORGIMENTO!!!
I am so excited to be introducing you to my new record, RISORGIMENTO! As I prepare to write you, I am flooded with all the things I’d like to tell you about this record, but I will try to keep my posts as brief as possible for everyone’s sake. ☺
 
I am “slow-releasing” this album, which means I will be releasing one song at a time throughout the summer until our concert in September (date to follow). The reason for this idea is because each song is a story within a historical context that is quite rich and perhaps even too important to not include in the “release.” I look forward to the dialogue that follows.
 
The songs on Risorgimento my voyage of stories through time that are rooted in Italian history, but mirrored (almost too closely) in our own current political climate. The music integrates many genres including classical, traditional Italian folk, pop, world, and avant-garde, all within my own singer-songwriter style. The musical language is often gleaned from historical music (folk or classical) that is directly related to the “era” of the song. The texts are also filled with literary and cultural references that are “era” specific.
 
The record title, RISORGIMENTO, is an Italian term for Italy’s unification in 1861 meaning, “resurgence.” Before this time, Italy was not a country but a conglomerate of states governed by a revolving door of foreign occupants. Under the feudal system, the majority of Italy’s population was poor with no real possibility for their status’ to improve. The term “Risorgimento” is a very hot and controversial term with Italians, pushing old buttons rooted in historical injustice between the north and south, and internal racism. Some argue that unification was just another form of oppression while others argue that it was a lost opportunity. Some say that unification was a lie and others argue that it never really happened as Italy is still divided.
 
The record starts here. Before the sun rises on the new “Italy” and before a common identity in language or nationhood begins. In the dark, under the candle light…the first songs emerges from the ancient and often forgotten island of Sardegna where a woman writes her first poems, asking the world to discover her…. Buon giorno, RISORGIMENTO !!!
Sono molto felice di presentare il mio nuovo disco, RISORGIMENTO! Mentre mi preparo a scrivere, sono inondata da tutte le cose che vorrei raccontarvi su questo disco, ma cercherò di mantenere i miei post il più breve possibile. ☺

Questo disco sarà un “slow release” che sarebbe un debutto “a pillole” per la duratura dell’estate fino al concerto di settembre a Toronto. Il motivo di questa idea è perché ogni canzone è una storia all’interno di un contesto storico che è piuttosto ricco e forse anche troppo importante per non includerlo nella “release.” Attendo con eccitazione il dialogo che seguirà.

Le canzoni su questo disco, Risorgimento, sono un mio viaggio nel passato radicato nella storia italiana, che si rispecchia nel nostro vivere attuale. La musica integra molti generi tra classico, folk tradizionale italiano, pop, world e avant-garde, tutto nel mio stile di cantautrice. Il linguaggio musicale è spesso ispirato dalla musica storica (folk o classica) che è direttamente connessa all’epoca di ogni brano. I miei testi hanno riferimenti letterari e culturali.

Il titolo del disco, “Risorgimento” non vuole essere un riferimento al movimento politico ma piú verso il sentimento popolare che chiedeva un riscatto sociale. Questo tema che ricorre, anche poeticamente, nella storia italiana, si rispecchia nel nostro attuale mondo che cerca, come i tempi passati, un riscatto sociale, e un senso morale.
